Iris is extremely excited. She’s going to her very first sleepover! She and Walter have lots of plans for what they are going to do. In school, their friend Benny whispers to Iris that he doesn’t like sleepovers, that he gets to homesick. Iris starts to worry that the same thing will happen to her. Sure enough, after having a ton of fun in the evening, when it’s time to go to sleep, Iris gets lonely for her family.
This book is a more advanced early reader. There are between three and six sentences on each page. The sentences can be fairly long. This is still a book for a beginner however. There are large and colorful illustrations on each page, taking up half or more of the available space. The pictures support the text, reflecting what is going on in the narrative.
Iris and Walter have several books in this series, all of them quiet stories of friendship. Most of the books are broken up into three short chapters. They are written by Elissa Haden Guest and illustrated by Christine Davenier.
