A little girl being pushed on a swing keeps urging her father to push her ever higher. She passes a giraffe, a skyscraper, and finally makes contact with an alien before swinging back to her dad.
Since the majority of the text is simply the words “Higher! Higher!”, the illustrations are key to proper enjoyment of this book. Author/illustrator Leslie Patricelli does not fail us in this department. The acrylic illustrations are bright and appealing. The pictures are simple with a textured feel to them. The little girl’s delight in her swinging is almost palpable from the broad grin plastered across her face.
Parents who have pushed countless swings and the children they were pushing will both adore this new book.
